Muhammed Lawal’s BKFC Debut Postponed Due to Injury

Muhammed Lawal, better known as “King Mo,” was set to make his Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) debut at BKFC 66 on September 13th, but unfortunately, a training injury has forced him to withdraw from the competition. This news was confirmed by a BKFC official after an initial report from MMAFighting.com. The specifics of Lawal’s injury have not been disclosed, leaving fans wondering if the 43-year-old fighter will attempt another comeback once he is cleared to compete.

Lawal last competed in November 2019, where he suffered a first-round knockout loss to Andrew Kapal at Bellator 233 in what was supposed to be his retirement bout. This defeat marked his fourth consecutive loss, all of which came by way of stoppage due to strikes. Despite his recent setbacks, Lawal boasts an impressive MMA record, with victories over well-known fighters such as Quinton Jackson, Jiri Prochazka, Linton Vassell, and Cheick Kongo.

With Lawal out of the BKFC 66 event, officials are currently working on securing a new fight for the BKFC middleweight title, which was originally set to feature Lawal against Dave Mundell. While Lawal focuses on his recovery and potential return to competition, BKFC fans can look forward to an exciting matchup for the vacant title.

Throughout his fighting career, Lawal also served as a part-time coach at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida. However, following his retirement from active competition, he made the decision to become a full-time member of the coaching staff at the prestigious gym. Lawal’s wealth of experience and knowledge will undoubtedly benefit the up-and-coming fighters under his guidance.

Muhammed Lawal’s setback serves as a reminder of the physical demands and risks involved in combat sports. While his BKFC debut may have been postponed, fans of the sport can still appreciate Lawal’s contributions to MMA and his continued involvement in the combat sports community as a coach. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in the ring or cage soon.
