The Weight Cut Journey of Jessica Andrade

The Weight Cut Journey of Jessica Andrade

Jessica Andrade, the only female in UFC history to earn victories in three weight classes, has had a successful career starting as a bantamweight and then making her way down to strawweight where she became a UFC champion.

Current Weight Cut

Currently preparing for her women’s flyweight bout against Natalia Silva at UFC Fight Night 242, Andrade has been experiencing what she describes as the best weight cut of her career. Despite starting her camp 30 pounds heavier than where she needs to be for weigh-ins, she feels confident and comfortable in her weight class for this upcoming fight.

Although she has faced significant weight cuts in the past, like dropping 60 pounds in 32 days before her fight against Claudia Gadelha in September 2017, Andrade is now left with only five pounds to shed before her fight with Silva. While these last few pounds may be the most difficult, she is no stranger to the challenges of making weight for her fights.

With the most fights and victories of any female in UFC history, Andrade is no stranger to the sacrifices and dedication required to be successful in the sport. Looking ahead to her bout with Silva, she sees it as a stepping stone towards a title shot in any division or even for a BMF belt.

Andrade views her upcoming fight with Silva as great matchmaking, as they both bring different styles of fighting to the octagon. With enough time to prepare for the fight, Andrade believes that both she and Silva will need to undergo a hard weight cut to make the required weight limit. She sees Silva as a worthy opponent and is looking forward to testing her skills against her in the octagon.

Jessica Andrade’s weight cut journey leading up to her fight with Natalia Silva at UFC Fight Night 242 is a testament to her commitment and dedication to the sport. Despite facing challenges in the past with extreme weight cuts, she remains focused and determined to succeed in her upcoming bout. With her sights set on a title shot and further accolades in her UFC career, Andrade’s journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring fighters looking to make their mark in the world of mixed martial arts.
